چکیده
The second-order ordinary differential equations can have one, two, three or eight independent symmetries. Sophus Lie showed that the equations with eight symmetries and only these equations can be linearized by a change of variables. Moreover he demonstrated that these equations are at most cubic in the first derivative and gave a convenient invariant description of all linearizable equations. We provide a similar description of the equations with three symmetries. There are four different types of such equations. Classes of equations equivalent to one of these equations were studied in [Ibragimov NH, Meleshko SV. Invariants and invariant description of second-order ODEs with three infinitesimal symmetries. Communication in Nonlinear Science and Numerical Simulation, in press], where we presented the candidates for all four types and studied one of these candidates. The present paper is the continuation of the work of Ibragimov and Meleshko and is devoted to other three candidates. 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. PACS: 02.30.Jr; 02.20.Tw

Second-Order Systems of ODEs Admitting Three-Dimensional Lie Algebras and Integrability
We present a systematic procedure for the determination of a complete set of kth-order (k ≥ 2) differential invariants corresponding to vector fields in three variables for three-dimensional Lie algebras. In addition, we give a procedure for the construction of a system of two kth-order ODEs admitting three-dimensional Lie algebras from the associated complete set of invariants and show that th...
متن کاملPoint classification of 2nd order ODEs: Tresse classification revisited and beyond
In 1896 Tresse gave a complete description of relative differential invariants for the pseudogroup action of point transformations on the 2nd order ODEs. The purpose of this paper is to review, in light of modern geometric approach to PDEs, this classification and also discuss the role of absolute invariants and the equivalence problem.
متن کاملGenerating Relative and Absolute Invariants of Linear Differential Equations
A general expression for a relative invariant of a linear ordinary differential equations is given in terms of the fundamental semi-invariant and an absolute invariant. This result is used to established a number of properties of relative invariants, and it is explicitly shown how to generate fundamental sets of relative and absolute invariants of all orders for the general linear equation. Exp...
متن کاملComputer Algebra Solving of First Order ODEs Using Symmetry Methods
A set of Maple V R.3/4 computer algebra routines for the analytical solving of 1 order ODEs, using Lie group symmetry methods, is presented. The set of commands includes a 1 order ODEsolver and routines for, among other things: the explicit determination of the coefficients of the infinitesimal symmetry generator; the construction of the most general invariant 1 order ODE under given symmetries...
متن کاملConditional symmetries for ordinary differential equations and applications
We refine the definition of conditional symmetries of ordinary differential equations and provide an algorithm to compute such symmetries. A proposition is proved which provides criteria as to when the symmetries of the root system of ODEs are inherited by the derived higher-order system. We provide examples and then investigate the conditional symmetry properties of linear nth-order equations ...
